The Construction of Ferries in Saskatchewan
As the population of Saskatchewan grew quickly in the early 20th century, ferries provided the means for settlers to cross rivers.
This project includes:
development of a digital reconstruction of the typical ferry used in Saskatchewan during the early 20th century (presented at the 2023 SHA conference)
development of physical models of the ferry and a museum display (in progress)
This project carried on from work done by Carol Light in her book “Crossing the River: A History of Ferries in Saskatchewan”. It would not have been possible without her help.
Thank you to the Western Development Museum in Moose Jaw for allowing access to their replica ferry for measurements and photographs.
